‘Bombay Begums’ TRAILER: Pooja Bhatt starrer is about five women facing societal norms

Netflix has finally released the much-awaited trailer of ‘Bombay Begums.’ Directed by ‘Lipstick Under My Burkha’ and ‘Dolly Kitty Aur Vo Chamakte Sitaare’, Alankrita Shrivastava. The show stars Pooja Bhatt, Shahana Goswami, Amruta Subhash, and others in main roles.

The trailer is about five ambitious women facing societal norms and revolves around their hopes, desires, and life choices.  In the video, Pooja plays a businesswoman, Rani. Amruta essays a bar dancer longing for a life of respect. Shahana plays a woman hoping to climb the corporate ladder, however, an unexpected pregnancy throws a wrench into her plans. Ayesha, who works at Rani’s office as an employee, is also trying to make her way through the professional ladder

The official synopsis of Netflix reads as: “From boardrooms to society’s margins, five ambitious women from various walks of life navigate dreams, desires and disappointments in modern Mumbai.”

Speaking about the show, Alankrita said in a statement: “Bombay Begums is a story about Indian women that I hope women in India and across the world will connect with. The series explores the complex journey of working Indian women who are ambitious for power and success but have many other battles to fight too. It’s the story of their daily hustle, the story of their dreams sometimes buried, sometimes fulfilled.”

‘Bombay Begums’ will premiere on March 8, 2021, on the occasion of International Women’s Day. It also stars Danish Husain, Rahul Bose, Imaad Shah, and Nauheed Cyrusi.
