Chennai Super Kings retain 22 players, leave out three ahead of IPL auctions

Defending IPL champions Chennai Super Kings on Wednesday made it public that they have retained 22 players for the upcoming season of the tournament, relieving three players of their contracts in the process.

The three players who have bee released are England fast bowler Mark Wood and the uncapped Indian duo of Kanishk Seth and Kshitiz Sharma.

One of the most successful sides in the history of the competition, CSK made a comeback to the IPL this year after serving a two-year ban and defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final.

November 15 is the deadline given by the IPL Governing Council to all the franchises wherein they would have to submit the list of players retained and released ahead of the IPL auctions in December.

CSK have retained English all-rounder David Willey, who they had brought in as a replacement for the injured Kedar Jadhav. Jadhav, who had sustained an injury in the very first match of the tournament this season also has been retained.

Wood got to play just one match while neither Seth and Sharma didn’t play a single match.

The core of the team nonetheless have been retained in the form of skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh and Ravindra Jadeja. They have used the Right to Match (RTM) card for retired West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo and South African skipper Faf Du Plessis.
