A fresh round of gunfire was heard in the district with the terrorists being encountered one after the other by the security personnel in the vicinity on August 3 night.

Four terrorists were reportedly found dead on August 4 morning; with the body of another terrorist who shot dead last night at Shopian’s Killora village was recovered.

Security operations were hindered by stone pelters which resulted in the retaliation of the forces. This left 20 stone pelters injured.

A civilian was also killed amid stone-throwing by locals as the bodies of the four who were shot dead today were found, the police said.

Following intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists, the security forces had cordoned off the village on Friday night. As they started a combing operation, the terrorists fired at them, leading to the encounter, the police said.

Director General of Police (DGP) of Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) congratulated the team on their accomplishment.
