Congress Is Supporting BJP’s Sushma Swaraj, Really?

Most of us who are on Twitter must be aware about the tweet that Congress party lately tweeted out, support for a BJP politician and external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj.

Right now the situation appears like it is cooperation of two political parties that usually opposes each other’s policies. To justify the above mentioned state let’s understand the occurrence of same.

Few days back a regional passport officer in Lucknow, Vikas Mishra, was a brush with fame as he allegedly harassed a Hindu woman and her Muslim husband on having a interfaith marriage. The woman tweeted to Swaraj who was on a state visit in Europe at the time and the alleged incident came to the attention of the media.

The woman alleged that Mishra told her Muslim husband to convert to Hinduism if he wanted his passport renewed. He also allegedly told her “it is a duty for a woman to get her name changed after marriage”.

Mishra, meanwhile, declined the couple’s allegations saying he was just following procedure. The officer, who a day after the incident was transferred to Gorakhpur from Lucknow, said the woman had a different name in her ‘nikahnama’, or wedding certificate, compared with her other documents, which is why he asked for more proof. He also denied saying “it is a duty for a woman to get her name changed after marriage”.

Now while all this happened where social media was going storm in a teacup, Swaraj was on an official trip overseas which was declared by her on her twitter handle tweeting ” was out of India from 17th to 23rd June 2018. I do not know what happened in my absence. However, I am honoured with some tweets. I am sharing them with you. So I have liked them.”

Trolls called Swaraj, among other things, the possessor of an “Islamic kidney” and an “almost dead woman as she runs on only one kidney”. No doubt that everyone around availed the chance of abusing Swaraj without referring directly to the incident.

But don’t underestimate the power of an old lady especially when she is managing the external affairs of your own nation. Swaraj with the same spirit portrayed as if she is being sportive and honored with some tweet as mentioned in her tweet which she put light on, including the trolls.

Promptly, even Congress party yesterday took on trolls who targeted the BJP’s Swaraj over an incident, expressed through a tweet as a reply to Swaraj’s tweet on the trolls.

Congress was purely sarcastic in words, claiming that the decision to call out the trolls was heinous of Swaraj as she portrayed, as if she liked them with an intention to calling out attention to those who missed the abuses heaped on her.

Apart from political irony many people also expressed on Twitter were unhappy about Mishra’s transfer over the incident and many called it “politics of appeasement” and “capitulation to minorities.”

A few others came out in support of Swaraj, although they were still critical.
