COVID-19 India: Over 45,000 New Coronavirus Cases, India’s Tally At 1,238,635

India reported the highest one-day spike of 45,720 coronavirus cases as per government data. This is the highest spike within 24 hours. The Covid-19 tally in India rose to 1,238,635 on Thursday. So far 7,82,607 people have recovered, while 29,861 deaths have been reported.

Maharashtra has the highest number of coronavirus cases in India, followed by Tamil Nadu and Delhi. The five states that reported the highest number of COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours are Maharashtra (10,576), Andhra Pradesh (6,045), Tamil Nadu (5,849), Karnataka (4,764) and Uttar Pradesh (2,300).

Several states have declared full lockdown in their cities due to the rise in coronavirus cases. According to the Indian Council of Medical Research, as many as 1,50,75,369 samples have been tested for coronavirus till July 22. At least 3,50,823 were tested on Wednesday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi says, “Need to vigorously fight against virus till vaccine is developed.”

The race for the development of the COVID-19 vaccine is on. World Health Organization (WHO) says researchers are making “good progress”, with a handful in late-stage trials. But they added that their first use cannot be expected until early 2021.

Mike Ryan, head of WHO emergency program said, “Realistically it is going to be the first part of next year before we start seeing people getting vaccinated.”

Globally, as many as 15,177,447 people have been infected with the novel coronavirus. While 622,183 fatalities have been recorded, 8,608,400 others have recovered till now.
