Former Indian cricketer and UP minister Chetan Chauhan passes away at 73 due to multiple organ failure

Former Indian cricketer and Uttar Pradesh minister Chetan Chauhan breathed his last on Sunday. Chauhan had been admitted at the Sanjay Gandhi PGI Hospital in Lucknow after being tested positive for COVID-19. The 73-year-old passed away due to multiple organ failure.

Chauhan, who was a cabinet minister in the Uttar Pradesh government, has appeared in a total of 40 matches for India. He has amassed 2,084 runs–including 16 half-centuries. He was known for his opening partnership with Sunil Gavaskar with the pair scoring more than 3,000 runs.

He has served the Delhi & Districts Cricket Association (DDCA) in various capacities. He was also the manager of the Indian team during their tour of Australia.

Chetan Chauhan, was awarded the prestigious Arjuna Award in 1981. He was elected twice to the Lok Sabha from Uttar Pradesh’s Amroha constituency in 1991 and 1998.
