All-rounder Glenn Maxwell said he would ditch the Indian Premier League and play County Cricket in England instead to make his way back to the Australian Test team.

The explosive batsman last played a Test match against Bangladesh last year in September and wasn’t selected for the ongoing four-match series against India.

Maxwell would link up countrymen Joe Burns and James Faulkner in Lancashire where he would feature in all three formats.

“This is a pretty clear sign I still want to play test cricket,” he said in an interaction with Melbourne newspaper Herald Sun, on Wednesday.

“To knock back a chance to play IPL was a big decision and a tough decision. It’s not something you make lightly, but the thought of playing test cricket again still burns deep.”

“I desperately want to get back out there and I still think I have a lot to offer the Australian test team,” he added.

The 30-year old has been one of the stars in the IPL due to his big-hitting skills and has even minted a lot of money from the tournament. But he had a poor outing for the Delhi Daredevils the last season and expectedly didn’t feature in the list of retained players for the franchise.

In October, he was ignored for the tour of Pakistan in the UAE.

Australia currently trail the four-match Test series 0-1 with India the contest in Adelaide by 31 runs.
