His tweet is a confession, Rahul only loves power: Sambit Patra

BJP’s official spokesperson, Sambit Patra, attacked Rahul Gandhi over the spat that has been going on in the political undercurrents after Rahul Gandhi’s controversial statement. The Congress had on Sunday slammed PM Narendra Modi for calling it a party that stood only for Muslim men. The Congress alleged the prime minister was spreading the “poison of hatred and division” sensing defeat in the next election.

Patra attacked Rahul Gandhi in a press release after Congress president on Tuesday tweeted that his organisation “loves all living beings”, irrespective of religion, caste and belief.

He stated that “Rahul Gandhi ji accepted through his tweet that Congress is a Muslim party”.

He alleged, referring to Rahul Gandhi’s tweet, that Congress has been cheating the “last person” he refered to to for the past 70 years.

The post on Gandhi’s Twitter wall described the Congress as an inclusive group. “I stand with the last person in the line. The exploited, marginalised and the persecuted. Their religion, caste or beliefs matter little to me. I seek out those in pain and embrace them. I erase hatred and fear. I love all living beings. I am the Congress,” it read.

The controversy erupted on June 12, when an Urdu newspaper quoted Gandhi as saying that the Congress was a “Muslim party” at a recent meeting with Islamic scholars. Soon, a number of BJP leaders; including defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, began questioning the Congress president on his alleged assertion.

While Sitharaman accused the Congress leadership of engaging in communal politics ahead of the Lok Sabha election, Modi said, “I read in the newspapers that naamdaar (entitled) said the Congress is a party of the Muslims. I am not surprised… When the previous prime minister was in charge, he said openly that the first use of natural resources should be with Muslims”.

The strong reaction from the Congress came after PM Narendra Modi’s reported remarks at a rally in Uttar Pradesh. “I read in the newspaper that the Congress president had said that Congress is a party of Muslims, and there has been discussion on this for the past two days. I am not surprised as when Manmohan Singh was PM, he had said that Muslims have the first right over natural resources,” Modi said in a rally in Uttar Pradesh.
