ICC ODI rankings: Virat Kohli continues to make merry at the top

Indian skipper Virat Kohli continued to strengthen his position at the top of the ICC ODI batting rankings after a fruitful outing in India’s 3-1 series win over the West Indies.

Kohli, who amassed 453 runs in the five-match series against the Windies where he also became the fastest to score 10,000 runs has gained a whopping 15 points which has now taken his tally to 899 rating points.

His teammate and deputy in limited-overs’ cricket Rohit Sharma is behind him by 28 points. The Mumbai batsman scored 389 runs in the five-match series and earned 29 rating points.

There has been big gains for Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravindra Jadeja in the rankings for bowlers. For the very first time in his career, Chahal has entered the top-10 after he gained three places to reach to the eighth place. Jasprit Bumrah, already the number-one ranked ODI bowler achieved a career-high rating of 841 points. Third-placed Kuldeep Yadav with 723 points has achieved his best rating points in his career so far. Jadeja, who is on a comeback trail, having made his return to the ODI setup has gained 16 places to occupy the 25th place after he picked up a total of seven wickets in the series.

But the West Indies’ brave show in the ODI series has now impacted the rankings of their players –Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmyer who were their star performers. Hope ended the five-match series with an average of 62.50 and his 250 runs sees him jump 22 spots to end up at the 25th position, which is the highest-ranked batsman from the West Indies among active cricketers.

Hetmyer, who scored nine more runs than compatriot Hope and ended as the highest run-scorer for his side now holds the 31st place having seen a rise by 31 spots.

England captain Eoin Morgan and Sri Lanka’s wicket-keeper batsman Niroshan Dickwella were not only the standout performers for their respective teams but also were the main gainers among those who played in the series.

Morgan gained four spots to rise to the 19th place after his 195 runs with the bat in the series. Dickwella, who ended with three runs less has gained nine places to move to the 27th spot.

India (121) have lost one rating point despite winning the series 3-1 and continue to be the second-placed side behind England (126). West Indies remain ninth in the standings despite an increase of three points while Sri Lanka who are at the eighth place with a two-point rise.
