IPL 2021: CSK’s MS Dhoni Fined Rs 12 Lakh After Loss Against DC
IPL 2021: Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni fined Rs 12 lakh After Loss Against Delhi Capitals
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, had a bad start to the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League. His team Chennai Super Kings lost by seven wickets to Delhi Capitals. Dhoni was fined Rs 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate during his side’s IPL opener against Delhi Capitals.
A media advisory issued by the IPL on Sunday said, “Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their VIVO Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 match against Delhi Capitals at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on April 10. As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr Dhoni was fined Rs 12 lakh.”
As it was CSK’s first offence of the season and thus the former India captain was let go with just a fine. But if the CSK will repeat the same mistake in two more games then he will be suspended for a match or two.
As per new IPL rules, each side needs to finish an IPL inning in 90 minutes. This includes two strategic time-outs of two and a half minutes each. As per the rule, the over rate has to be 14.1 overs per hour.
This means that a second offence will see CSK skipper Dhoni receiving a 24 lakh fine. The remaining team members will be fined INR 6 lakh or a 25% match fee fine. A third offence will result in an INR 30 lakh fine, a one-match ban for the captain. INR 12 lakh or 50% match fee fine for each member of the team.
