The bail comes as a big relief as Lalu Prasad Yadav returned to jail following the end of his parole on medical grounds. Tejashwi, widely accepted as the political heir of Lalu, was present in the court with his mother, to present their case in the IRCTC land scam case.

Hearing the bail plea, the judge took just a few minutes to announce the decision and granted the bail plea. Earlier the chargesheet was filed by the Enforcement Directorate against Lalu, Rabri , Tejashwi and 13 others in connection with the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) scam. The names of RJD leader and Union minister Prem Chand Gupta, his wife Sarla Gupta and a firm Lara projects were also mentioned in the chargesheet.

According to the chargesheet, the IRCTC official and the former CM have been accused of allegedly misusing their position for granting sub-lease of the rights of two railway hotels at Puri and Ranchi to Ms Sujata Hotel Pvt. Ltd. This firm was owned by Vijay and Vinay Kochhar. This is one of alleged scam due which Chief Minister Nitish Kumar separated his RJD and joined BJP in 2017.
