Struggling Days

His journey was not easy before stepping into Bollywood. When he first arrived in Mumbai, he worked as an air condition repairman. The reports also state that the first house that he visited as a repairer was the superstar, Rajesh Khanna’s house. Irrfan was apparently inspired by the superstar’s persona and that’s how he got a motivation to work hard in Bollywood.

Acting Debut

The actor made his debut in the year 1988 with the film, ‘Salaam Bombay’. At that time he was in his final years at NSD and the film was received well by the audience and it was also nominated for the Academy Awards.

The Extra ‘R’ In His Name

It was almost a common thing in Bollywood, that every actor would change their name as per the astrology production or as per their stage names. Irrfan added the extra ‘R’ to his name, as someone had suggested him to do so.

Marriage

The actor got hitched to the writer, Sutapa Sikdar, who was his fellow NSD student. After dating each other for a while, both of them got married on February 23 1995. She has always been his pillar of strength to him and stood strong with him till his last moments. The couple is blessed with two kids, Babil and Ayan.

The Turning Point

Apparently, there was a time when he wanted to quit acting, because he got bored with the TV content. But the actor made sure to stick to his career and later he delivered some of the great performances in his next up movies. He is the only actor from Bollywood to have two Academy Award-winning movies, Slumdog Millionare (2008) and Life of Pie (2012). He has also received the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian honor in India, for his contribution to the field of cinema and arts.

We the team of The Live Mirror offer our hearty condolences to his family for a great loss and we wish that the actor rests in peace.
