Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Birth Anniversary: PM Modi, Sonia Gandhi and others pay tribute

On November 14, country is celebrating 129th birth anniversary of the first prime minister of Independent India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. There are several politicians including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President M Venkiah Naidu, UPA chariperson Sonia Gandhi, former prime minister Manmohan Singh, former president Pranab Mukherjee and former Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot paid tribute to Jawaharlal Nehru on his 129th birthday anniversary.

PM Modi recalled Pandit Nehru’s contribution to India’s freedom struggle and wrote on Twitter: “Remembering our first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on his birth anniversary. We recall his contribution to our freedom struggle and during his tenure as Prime Minister,” he tweeted.

“Remembering Shri Jawaharlal Nehru, our first Prime Minister, on his birth anniversary,” President Kovind tweeted. ‘Nehru’s Legacy Being Undermined by Those Ruling India Today’.

Vice president of India Venkiah Naidu tweeted: “Tributes to the first Prime Minister of India and a visionary, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru on his birth anniversary, today. The nation remembers the legendary leader and his invaluable contributions towards the building of modern India. #JawaharlalNehru.”

UPA Chairperson and former prime minister Dr Manmohan Singh paid their tribute to the first prime minister of independent India.

Former vice president Hamid Ansari and former president Pranab Mukherjee also paid tribute to former PM Jawaharlal Nehru on his 129th birth anniversary.

Former Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot paid a floral tribute to Jawaharlal Nehru at Shantivan in Delhi. Adding on he wrote on Twitter: “As the Nation celebrates #ChildrensDay on #ChachaNehru’s birth anniversary, let us resolve to create an environment, which leads to overall development of #Children. #JawaharlalNehru ji wanted #kids to grow as healthy, happy, rational and enlightened citizens.
#HappyChildrensDay.”

A day before Jawaharlal Nehru’s birthday anniversary, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday attacked at Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) saying that the precious legacy of independent India’s first prime minister was being undermined on a regular basis by those ruling the country presently.

She also appealed to people of India to fight with determination to safeguard the country’s democracy against those undermining it.

Sonia Gandhi while addressing a gathering at the launch of Congress MP Shashi Tharoor’s new edition of his 2003 book ‘Nehru: The Invention of India said,” Precious legacy of Nehru is being undermined daily by those who rule us today. They express disdain for Nehru for all that he did to build India that they are bent upon changing for worse. Today we must honour him by fighting with determination to safeguard democracy.”
