Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has been charged by the English Football Association (FA) for using abusive language following his team’s 3-2 comeback win over Newcastle United at Old Trafford in the Premier League earlier this month, said the England football body on Tuesday.

Mourinho, reports Reuters, was caught on camera using derogatory language in his native tongue while walking down the touchline following United’s victory against Newcastle. A camera was reportedly live-tracking the Portuguese while he walked down the touchline and that is when Mourinho was seen mouthing the insult directed at the camera.

“It is alleged that his (Mourinho’s) language at the end of the fixture, as captured by the broadcast footage, was abusive and/or insulting and/or improper. He has until 6 pm on 19 October 2018 to respond to the charge,” the FA has said in a statement reported the agency.

It also stated that if found guilty, Mourinho could be handed a touchline ban for one game. It means that if found to be at fault, the United gaffer could miss the all-important away match to Stamford Bridge against his former club Chelsea this Saturday.

The Portuguese has had a torrid time at the Manchester club this season and has overseen heartbreaking defeats to second-tier club Derby County in the EFL cup and has also faced league defeats against West Ham and Tottenham at home.

United are currently eighth in the league table after eight round of matches, with just four victories and a draw.
