Thanhawala lost Champhai to Mizo National Front’s (MNF) TJ Lalnuntluanga, while Serchhip was snatched by Zoram People’s Movement’s (ZPM) chief ministerial candidate Lalduhoma.

The Mizo National Front (MNF) is ahead on 25 seats, while the ruling party Congress is leading on 10 seats.

Interestingly, the Mizoram Chief Minister, Thanhwala has won from Serchhip seven times since 1984, except for in 1998 when his government faced a strong wave of anti-incumbency.

Polling for 40 seats was held on November 28, recorded 80 percent voter turnout.
