Muzaffarpur: Cops to probe allegations of 21 girls raped, buried at shelter home

The investigation team of Bihar police is all set to investigate the allegation about the girl who was beaten to death and buried at a government shelter home in Muzaffarpur, where over 40 young girls were allegedly raped. The team is digging up the grounds, in order to recover the remaining bodies of girls who were raped.

As per the information, medical reports have confirmed that out of 21 girls rescued, 16 girls were raped, while the reports of the remaining girls who lived in the horror house in Muzaffarpur is yet to be revealed.  Police has shut the state-run shelter and have arrested an officer in the district administration for further questioning.

Out of the 16 girls raped, the youngest one is a seven-years-old. The medical examination was conducted at the Patna Medical College and Hospital and more details are yet to be ascertained.

For the Muzaffarpur police to take cognizance of the crimes, the report of the examination has been forwarded to them which might aid them while probing the matter further. Harpreet Kaur, SSP Muzaffarpur informed the media, “We have received medical reports from Patna today of 21 girls out of which it has been said that 16 of them had sexual contact. We are waiting for the report of 8 more girls. We are going to file chargesheet against the accused who have been arrested till now.”

Reports of the medical tests have also revealed that the victims are experiencing heightened mental trauma ever since the incident. The preliminary police investigation had suggested that the owner of the government shelter in question not only subjected the minors to sexual abuse but also took them out of the shelter on more than one occasions, Times Now reported.

A social audit done by the Sewa Sankalp Evam Vikas Samiti by the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) revealed the horrific incident. The outcome of the investigation has been dire with over 10 people including some government officials being placed into arrest. Law enforcement agencies are also trying to locate the body of an inmate who was allegedly beaten to death by staff members at the shelter. A victim rescued by police mentioned the missing girl when a magistrate was recording her statement.

“Since March, the Bihar government was aware about repeated rapes of 40 minors in the Muzaffarpur shelter by politicians, officials for years. Many had forced abortions. No action was taken but cover up is on at war footing,” said the RJD leader.

“The total number of people arrested in the case has now reached 10. We are on the lookout for people absconding,” said senior police officer in Muzaffarpur, Harpreet Kaur. A special investigation team has been formed to probe the case.

Of the 44 girls who were staying at the home, 14 have been shifted to shelters in Madhubani,14 in Mokama and 16 in Patna.
