Nations League: England register stunning comeback win over Croatia

England staged a stunning comeback win over Croatia at the Wembley on Sunday to make it to the finals of the UEFA Nations League.

This win would be sweet for Gareth Southgate’s men, whose dreams of bringing the World Cup ‘home’ was left dashed by Croatia in the semi-finals in July this year. Even in this match, it was Croatia who looked set to win and hand England a relegation from the elite group after Andrej Kramaric had put forward the hosts in the 57th minute.

England needed to win this match which would help them top the group and advance to the next stage in the new tournament. They did so, in style when Jesse Lingard, walking in as a substitute, levelled for England in the 78th minute before Kane netted the winner for his side from a free-kick by Ben Chilwell to down Croatia.

Yet the story went along a similar script like the one in Moscow that night when England had given up their World Cup title hopes to eventual runners-up Croatia but Southgate’s men didn’t let the story end on a similar note this time around as they showed courage in believing that they could win this thing and as things turned out, they did win at the end.

The English manager brought in two attacking players in the form of Jadon Sancho and Lingard and the latter responded with 12 minutes left on the clock. This victory also assures England of a spot in the Euro 2020 playoffs.
