Premier League: Liverpool maintain winning streak, Burnley have a win against Bournemouth

Liverpool’s season continued to go from good to better as they clinched their sixth win in a row, beating Southampton 3-0 at the Anfield on Saturday.

It was the same stadium where they had earlier defeated French champions Paris Saint Germain 2-1 in their Champions League match and the side hardly looked to have changed on confidence and momentum.

But what was evident was Jurgen Klopp’s bench strength. The German handed summer signing Xherdan Shaqiri his first start since joining Liverpool and the move paid dividends as his shot deflected off Wesley Hoedt and crashed into the net.

Joel Matip was the next scorer for the Reds, making use of his first start as well as he slotted one in from a Trent Alexander-Arnold cross. The third and the final goal for Liverpool was scored by none other than their talisman Mohammad Salah who broke his mini-drought before half-time.

In the other matches, Burnley broke their losing streak to trounce Bournemouth 4-0 in Turf Moor on Saturday. Matej Vydra opened the scoring for the hosts in the 39th minute before Aaron Lennon doubled the lead in the 41st.

A brace from Ashley Barnes sealed the win for the Sean Dyche’s side who find themselves at the 16th position in the league table.

In Fulham, the hosts cancelled out a goal from Andre Gray in the second minute to hold high-flying Watford to a draw. Aleksandar Mitrovic found the back of the net in the 78th minute.

At the King Power Stadium, Leicester City raced to a 3-1 finish against Huddersfield. Kelechi Iheanacho (19′), James Maddison (66′) and Jamie Vardy (75′) scored for the hosts as the visitors failed to capitalise on a  Mathias Jorgensen strike in the fifth-minute.

Roy Hodgson’s Crystal Palace played out a goalless draw against Newcastle.

Tottenham Hotspur, riding on goals from Harry Kane and Eric Lamela defeated Brighton and Hove Albion 2-1.
