Priyanka Chopra praises a Jharkhand girl for bagging Harvard University scholarship

Seema Kumari, a Jharkhand-based footballer has received a full scholarship program from the Harvard University. She is the daughter of illiterate farmers. As she makes her parents feel proud of these achievements, she is ruling over the internet trends. Bollywood actress, Priyanka Chopra took to her social media handles and praised the girl. PeeCee shared the news with her fans on social media.

Seema hails from a remote area of Dahu in Ormanjhi (Jharkhand). Why people respect her? Because she stood strong against child marriage, fought for her right to education and played football for years when a section of society ridiculed her for wearing shorts which are required to play these sports. Reportedly, she will be the first one from her family to go to the university. Apart from receiving a scholarship program from the Harvard University of Cambridge, MA, United States, she has also received offers from the Ashoka University, Middlebury College and Trinity College-Hartford.

For the unversed, Seema apparently says that she plans to work towards women’s empowerment. She wants to open an organization wherein she can work towards getting women equal rights in her village. As per the Yuwa India Instagram handle, she said, “I plan to start an organization for women in my village. This program would have two goals. One to start a small business that would train women to be financially independent. The other is to educate women about their rights and to build a bigger network to support women by providing essential vocational skills and knowledge.”
