Punjab: Minor raped by 22-year-old brother, taken to ‘tantrik’

A class on “good touch and bad touch” helped a Chandigarh minor girl in realising that she was being sexually exploited by her own 22-year-old brother. Over a time span of 18 months she was raped several times by him. In the complaint that was lodged, she even alleged that she was even subjected to unnatural sex by her elder brother.

The shocking case reported from Chandigarh, came to light after the minor decided to take matters into her own hands after the talk was delivered at her school to familiarize students on “good and bad touch”. The 11-year-old victim, revealed her ordeal to her classmate after the session ended which led to the shocking discovery as the friend then went and confided in the teachers.

The girl lives with her mother in Kharar, near Punjab state capital Chandigarh while the father has reportedly deserted them a while ago. The girl also revealed that when she was raped for the first time, she complained to her mother. While admonishing her daughter’s claims and considering them to be falsities, the mother took her to a ‘tantrik’. She believed that her daughter was hallucinating.

On repeatedly assaulting the minor, the brother was finally caught by the mother. She asked the 22-year-old to leave the house. Shockingly, instead of reporting the case, the mother tried to conceal the incident. She instructed her daughter not to ‘reveal’ anything about incident to anybody.

On July 20, the minor, however realised that she was being sexually exploited after the sensitisation class and told her friend that her brother was allegedly touching her inappropriately. The school then took cognizance of the issue and reported the matter to a child helpline.

A case under section 376 of IPC was registered at Kharar police station. The brother was also booked under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The police have arrested the accused and recorded the statements of the mother and daughter. The accused worked in a cycle repair shop in Attawa sector 42, the minor had revealed to the police.

As per a report in Hindustan Times, the victim told the local magistrate how she was even subjected to unnatural sex by her elder brother.
