Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic begin their stint with straight wins in the first round of Wimbledon 2018. The Spaniard defeated Israel’s Dudi Sela 6-3, 6-3, 6-2 whereas Novak Djokovic got the better of American Tennys Sandgren by 6-3, 6-1, 6-2.

Rafa outplayed Israel’s Dudi Sela who has an impressive backhand but totally lacked the venom needed to defeat the French open champion. Rafael Nadal’s victory will bring a bright smile on faces of Spanish supporters after the disheartening penalty shootout defeat against Russia shattering their World cup hopes.

Rafael Nadal recently won the 11th French Open title last month, and the 32-year-old will be keen to triumph at Wimbledon 2018.

“It’s great to be out here at Wimbledon. I’m happy to be through. There’s still room to improve but after a while without playing on grass it’s very important to start with a straight victory. I think I went to the net a couple of times and when I had a chance on my forehand I think I took advantage. It’s the first round and not easy. It’s never easy but especially here on grass without playing a match before.”, said Rafael Nadal.

Novak Djokovic had an easy win as it was his opponent Tennys Sandgren’s debut match at the Wimbledon who had played only one Tour match on grass prior to arriving in London.

The Serbian was out for around 12 months due to an elbow injury. He seems to move well and is getting into his element in the quest of winning the fourth title at Wimbledon.

“It was windy and it was one of those days you want to start well and get that first set under your belt and start to feel more comfortable. I didn’t want to give him an opportunity to come back to the match. I do feel good, it’s quite refreshing and I’m looking forward to see how I progress in this tournament.”, the 12 time Grand Slam champion Djokovic said.
