Congress leader Ramya posts offensive tweet on PM Modi, booked for sedition

Actor turned politician Ramya has been booked under section 67 of the Information Technology (amendment) Act and sedition section 124A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for posting a tweet against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Ramya was booked after a Lucknow based lawyer Syed Rizwan Ahmed filed a complaint against her in Gomtinagar Police station.

She is a former Member of Parliament and social media chief of Congress.  She had tweeted PM Modi’s photoshopped picture, standing with his own wax statue and painting ‘chor’ on its forehead and wrote a hashtag reading, “Chor PM Chup Hai”.

Taking Syed Rizwan Ahmed’s complaint seriously, Gomtinagar police filed an FIR on September 25. The lawyer took to Twitter to post a photo of the FIR acknowledgement and stated that the PM’s legal team should be more active.

He added, “Twitter friend and I have initiated the legal proceedings as you (PM Modi) are the country’s Prime Minister and not of any specific group.” He also claimed that before filing an FIR he had requested Ramya to remove the post, but she did not.
The lawyer also called it an attack on the Indian Republic and Prime Minister, and said that he does not have any connection with either BJP or RSS.

Following the FIR, he asked the BJP to follow the case. He tweeted, “#1My humble knowledge says that defamation in the capacity of an individual is not maintainable. BJP as an organisation is more fit to initiate.”

While speaking to ANI he said, “Her tweet was derogatory. The PM represents our sovereignty & republic. It is a disgrace to our nation & is a contempt.”
