Karan Johar’s film went on to gross ₹2.23 billion worldwide, becoming a commercial success. The film was declared a super-hit at the box office.

Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, the film follows the life of Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt, his addiction to drugs, and his comeback in the film industry, Ranbir plays the role of Sanju, alongside Paresh Rawal, Vicky Kaushal, Manisha Koirala, Dia Mirza, Sonam Kapoor, and Jim Sarbh. Sanju emerged as the highest-grossing Bollywood film of 2018, the second highest-earning Hindi film in India of all time, and one of the highest-grossing Indian films.
