Sakhir Grand Prix: Jehan Daruvala First Indian To Win Formula 2 In Bahrain

India’s Jehan Daruvala clinched his first Formula 2 win. The historic moment took place at the Sakhi Grand Prix in Bahrain. A thrilling battle against F2 champion Mick Schumacher and Daniel Ticktum saw the 22-year-old Indian emerge on top. This was during the support race of the season-ending Formula 1 Grand Prix.

Here is how he bagged the first position:

Jehan Daruvala driving for Rayo Racing had a good launch from second on the grid. He was alongside pole-sitter Daniel Ticktum. But was soon squeezed on the inside by Ticktum. This move allowed Schumacher to go around the outside of both of them. Ticktum soon took the lead, followed by Schumacher and Jehan in third. A few corners later, Jehan passed Schumacher and got into the second position but was soon relegated to the third position by Schumacher. A thrilling battle ensued between the two and Jehan once again claimed his second position.

Jehan then tried to catch the leader but was not able to overtake Ticktum. But soon he got an opening and pushed forward by maintaining his cool. Finally with ten laps to go Jehan grabbed the lead and finally took the chequered flag to win his maiden FIA Formula 2 race.

Jehan’s Japanese teammate Yuki Tsunoda was second, while Ticktum was third. Schumacher had to drop out of the points contention due to a pit stop forced by damage on the tyres. But as he held on to his 14-point lead at the top of the Championship table. Mick Schumacher clinched the title with a total of 215 points.
