A municipality office in the terror-hit district of Shopian in Jammu & Kashmir was set on fire by some unidentified people on Monday evening just days after the local body elections had been held in the state.

The local elections were held amidst boycott from the National Conference and the People’s Democratic Party. Many terrorist groups in the state had also threatened to cause harm if the polls were carried out.

But despite the threats and continuous boycotts, the BJP swept the polls by winning in 53 of the 12 wards in South Kashmir.

The Saffron party also won 13 of the 17 municipality seats in Shopian unopposed, while the remaining four seats went un-elected as no party filed any nomination for those seats.

Meanwhile, a report in NDTV stated that after 10 terrorists were killed in three attacks last week, a video surfaced online, which showed many terrorists carrying guns with them and shouting slogans as the crowd walked on the funeral of the slain terrorists in the Shopian district.

The attacks on the civic office come on the aftermath of a series of terror attacks in South Kashmir. Just yesterday, a police officer was shot dead at the Wahibugh area of the Pulwama district. A People Democratic Party activist was also killed in another attack in Srinagar.
