Ben Stokes returns as England name ODI squad
All rounder Ben Stokes returns to the England squad for ODI’s against India. He had an unusual last one year surrounded by injuries, controversies and bans. He last featured in an ODI against New Zealand post the ban imposed by ECB in aftermath of the incident outside Bristol night club in September 2017.
England left out Sam Billings and Sam Curran who were part of the squad that whitewashed Australia 5-0. Sam Billings failed miserably whenever given an opportunity in the playing eleven whereas Sam Curran was brought in as a cover for the two injured quick’s, Tom Curran and Jake Ball. With both the bowlers recovering from their respective niggles, there won’t be any place for the all rounder.
Chris Woakes continues to be a part of the recovery process after picking up an injury earlier this season. England will surely miss his services but it seems as if they have all parts covered especially after humiliating their arch rivals to a 5-0 whitewash.
England currently hold top spot in the ICC rankings and they will look to dominate from the word go. Indian team seems way better than the depleted Aussie side that had a bizarre tour.
India will begin with three T20 Internationals followed by three ODI’s and then comes the tricky five match Test series against the intriguing English bowlers.
The all rounder Ben Stokes will play for Durham Jets in the opening match of the T20 tournament against Yorkshire Vikings. The 27 year old will be available for selection from July 8th and will look to turn tables around from the tipsy turvy ride he had in the preceding year.
England squad: Eoin Morgan (C), Moeen Ali, Jonathan Bairstow, Jake Ball, Jos Buttler, Tom Curran, Alex Hales, Liam Plunkett, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, Jason Roy, Ben Stokes, David Willey, Mark Wood
