Sunil Chhetri to miss Jordan friendly due to ankle injury

An ankle injury has ruled Sunil Chhetri out of action from the upcoming international friendly match against Jordan. The star Indian forward would thus miss up to two weeks of action.

He had suffered from the injury while playing for his club Bengaluru FC against Kerala Blasters in the Indian Super League on November 5.

Gigy George, the physiotherapist of the Indian team said, “The BFC medical team have shared the MRI reports and medical assessments and we have scrutinised them thoroughly. Sunil needs rest of around two weeks and proper rehabilitation after which he can get back to training.”

“He can’t travel with this injury as it’s a weight-bearing joint. He needs to have proper rest along with the rehab programme for a speedy recovery. We are closely monitoring the situation and following it up with the club medical team and Sunil himself,” said the Indian team doctor Shervin Sheriff, the Indian team doctor said.

India is scheduled to take on Jordan at the King Abdullah II stadium in Amman on November 17. The team would leave for the match on November 15. Stephen Constantine’s men have been placed with Thailand, Bahrain and hosts UAE in the AFC Asian Cup 2019.

They would play their first game against Thailand in the Continental Championship on January 6, next year.
