Amazon Prime web series Mirzapur makers are in legal trouble, as the Supreme Court of India has sent a legal notice to the producers. The case was earlier filed against the makers for allegedly tarnishing the image of Uttar Pradesh. The legal case was filed against producers and the OTT platform for portraying Mirzapur as a badly influenced and violent place. Apparently, cops from UP have come to Mumbai following the probe.
SC issues the notice to Mirzapur makers while a section of society demand for a regulation on OTT content. Most recently, it was Ali Abbas Zafar’s web series Tandav came under the radar after the producers were alleged of hurting the religious sentiments. Soon the security outside Saif Ali Khan’s house was beefed up.
Now, SC has issued a notice to the makers of Mirzapur and OTT platform Amazon Prime Video seeking a response. According to the news agency, ANI, “Supreme Court issues notice to makers and producers of web series ‘Mirzapur’ and Amazon Prime Video, on a petition complaining about the portrayal of Mirzapur district, UP in a bad light in the web series. SC seeks response from the OTT platform and series makers.”

Mirzapur featured Pankaj Tripathi as Akhandanand Tripathi, Ali Fazal as Guddu Pandit and Divyendu Sharma in the key roles. It also featured stars such as Harshita Gaur, Shweta Tripathi, Vikrant Massey. The show was co-produced by Ritesh Sidhwani, Farhan Akhtar and Bhaumik Gondaliya. The show was in legal trouble last year as well when Mirzapur MP Anupriya Patel had accused the makers of tarnishing the image of the city.
For the unversed the PIL was filed by Sujeet Kumar Singh, who is a resident of Mirzapur. He apparently said that the web series makers have shown Mirzapur as a city of goons and adulteress.
