Headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra, a five-judge Constitution Bench will deliver its verdict on the Delhi government’s appeal, led by Kejriwal, which challenged the August 2016 High Court judgment that held the Lieutenant-Governor as the administrative head of the Capital.

In its verdict, the High Court had ruled that all decisions taken by the Delhi government Ministers must be communicated to the L-G. This decision was a blow the AAP government which has been engaged in a perpetual power struggle with the Central government-appointed official.

Since the formation of AAP government in 2015,  Kejriwal and his ministers have highlighted multiple times that they  have no say over important departments like law and order and agencies such as the Delhi Development Authority. The decision is likely to affect Delhi’s Union Territory statues, which has not only been in media reports for protests, but also become the most polluted city in India.
