Youth Olympics silver medallist Thangjam Tababi Devi donates competition attire to IOC Museum
Youth Olympics silver medallist Thangjam Tababi Devi, who became India’s second medallist at the event after winning the silver in Judo, has donated her attire to the International Olympic Committee for it to be kept at the Olympic Museum in Switzerland.
It is the very attire, which she wore while participating in the women’s 44kg Judo event. The 16-year-old judoka from Manipur became the first Indian to win a medal in Judo in any Olympics Games level. She won the silver after losing 0-11 against Maria Giminez of Venezuela in the final at Buenos Aires.

Following the donation of her attire to the Olympic museum, Tababi becomes the second Indian after teenage shooting sensation Saurabh Chaudhary to donate to the Olympic Museum. The Museum in Switzerland is the largest archive of memorabilia with over 10,000 permanent and temporary exhibits related to the Olympic movement on display, reported news agency PTI.
“I was happy to be invited to donate my judogi (traditional Judo attire) to the Olympic Museum. I immediately called my coach to tell him and he explained what an honour it was for me. I’m happy my performance was recognised and hope this can help make judo more popular in India,” Tababi was quoted as saying by the news agency after she had donated the attire.
Meanwhile, Saurabh Chaudhary, who won a gold in the men’s 10m Air Pistol event at the Youth Games, donated his pistol to the Olympic Museum.
The news agency also reported that Tababi will head for training with coach Mamuka Kizilashvili at JSW Sports’ Inspire Institute of Sport as soon as she returns from Argentina following the conclusion of the Olympic Games. She is focused and wants to win a medal at the upcoming Commonwealth Championships which is scheduled to be held in Jaipur from November 5-10.
