The post for the Telecom department of the Uttar Pradesh police surprisingly has received over 81000 job applications, which includes around 50,000 graduates, 28,000 post-graduates, and 3,700 Ph.D. holders. But the posts vacant in the department are only 62.

According to a report in India Today, the minimum eligibility for the post of a peon in the UP police is class 5 and the starting salary is Rs 20,000. But the shocking number of applicants and their qualifications have prompted the department to postpone the hiring process.

“Around 93,500 applicants have applied for 62 vacant posts. This includes graduates, postgraduates, MBAs, MCAs, PhDs and people holding other highly qualified degrees,” Director General of the Telecom Department of UP Police, Pramod Kumar Tiwari was quoted as saying by India Today.

“Earlier, the selection used to happen if a person applying for this job knows how to ride a bicycle. However, now the written examination is also mandatory.

“With too many applicants for mere 62 posts, we have requested the government to provide us funds so that an agency could be hired for getting offline examinations conducted. However, the hiring process has been put on hold for now,” he added.

Meanwhile, the opposition party of the state hit out on the Yogi Adityanath led government for their failure to increase the employment despite having such highly qualified citizens in the state.

The CM had earlier complained that UP has very small amount of qualified people and that education in the state was a big issue.

“UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s statement was insulting when he said that qualified youths are not there. However, the fact is that the youths of UP are qualified but the government is not able to provide them jobs,” said Samajwadi Party spokesperson Abdul Hafiz Gandhi to the broadcasting channel.

But reacting to those comments, Rakesh Tripathi, a BJP leader of the state hit out, “During the tenure of the SP government, applicants for hiring in all departments used to approach the court alleging discrepancies. The hiring used to happen only on the basis of money power or caste. Since the BJP has come to power, there is full transparency in the hiring process.”
