James Vince called for final ODI against India

England called James Vince as a replacement for Dawid Malan for the third and final ODI to be played at Headingley on Tuesday. The left-handed batsman who is yet to play an ODI for his nation was released so that he could feature in the Lions side for the four-day encounter against India A.

All-rounder Sam Curran has also been released from England’s ODI squad to play for the Lions although he has not been replaced. The four-day match will commence against India ‘A’ at New Road, Worcester on 16th July, Monday.

Dawid Malan had been called into the one-day squad after Alex Hales injured his side. After the England Lions game he has a Championship fixture against Warwickshire before the Test series against India begins on August 1. Just like the left hander, James Vince also has no chance of making it to the playing XI, unless there is any injury scare.

He has been selected ahead of Sam Billings, who has been a regular part of the one-day squad but failed in his precious few appearances. He was left out after the series against Australia and said there had been discussions between him and national selector Ed Smith that it was better to get a run of matches for Kent rather than carry the drinks for England. Billings has since found some form with 75 in the Royal London final and a T20 career-best of 95 not out, both against Vince’s Hampshire.

England will take on India in the series decider at Headingley on Tuesday as both teams look to finish the limited overs format on a winning note.
