Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore rose in support of the Bill For Sports University in Manipur in Lok Sabha. The Bill was moved by Dr. Ratna De Nag. The National Sports University Bill, 2018 will replace the ordinance promulgated by the President on 31 May.

The Lok Sabha on Monday passed the Negotiable Instruments (Amendment) Bill that provides the filing of cheque bounce cases at the place where a cheque is presented for clearance and not the place of issue. Reports inform that the Bill overturns a Supreme Court ruling, which said the cases have to be initiated where the cheque-issuing branch was located.

Finance Minister Piyush Goyal introduces Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (Second Amendment) bill, 2018 in Lok Sabha.

Opposition parties objected to certain changes in the Act alleging that these intended to “help one industry”. The Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (Second Amendment) Bill, 2018, was introduced by finance minister Piyush Goyal. The bill replaced the Ordinance which was approved by the Union Cabinet in May.

The amendments to the IBC is intended to give relief to the home buyers by recognising their status as financial creditors, thus giving them due representation in the Committee of Creditors (CoC) and making them an integral part of the decision-making process. The bill also proposes to reduce the minimum voting threshold for the CoC to 66 per cent, from 75 percent for key decisions: a provision which was opposed by BJD member Bhartruhari Mahtab.

Parliament is scheduled to discuss the Anti-Trafficking Bill in its session today. The Trafficking of Persons (Prevention, Protection and Rehabilitation) Bill was introduced in the monsoon session of the Lok Sabha on July 18, 2018, by Union  Minister for Women and Child Development Maneka Gandhi.

The Monsoon Session of the Parliament has entered fourth day and the heated debate between the political parties on specific issues is continuing. With issues related to including the Jio Institute in the ‘Institute of Eminence’, firey speeches are most likely to lead the headlines. Among issues being lined up include the rising lynching cases, women’s safety and RTI Amendment Bill.

The House was adjourned on Friday after Prime Minister’s speech in which he took on Congress president for hugging him and alleging that the BJP-led Union government is not working for the development of the underprivileged people of the country. Though there the Session went on till 11:30 pm in the night, there were multiple occasions when opposition created ruckus in the Lok Sabha.
