India is aiming to become a global power in next five years and we still have people who are stuck in the traditions abolished ages ago. In a recent shocking incident, a veterinary officer was denied drinking water by the villagers of Uttar Pradesh’s Kaushambi district, because she was a Dalit!

Confirming the incident, a state official said that the incident took place in Ambawa Poorab village in Manjhanpur block of Kaushambi district on Wednesday. He added that the mishap happened when a deputy chief veterinary officer visited the village which is 167 kilometres away from the state capital, reports NDTV.

Providing more information on the incident, the official said that Dr. Seema was sent to the village to review developmental works by the district panchayat raj officer. She asked for drinking water from the gram pradhan Shiv Sampat Pasi and village development officer Ravi Dutt Mishra, but was refused as she was a Dalit. Seema then asked water from the villagers, they too were gestured not to offer her drinking water.

When contacted by the news channel, District Magistrate Manish Verma said, “We have taken cognizance of the incident after the officer lodged a written complaint. Superintendent of police has been asked to probe the matter.”
