According to report published in The Times of India, the tyres of the Dubai-bound Air India flight with 130 passengers on-board hit the compound wall of the Trichy international airport while the aircraft was taking off at around 1:20 am on Friday, damaging an ILS (instrument landing system) antenna and a small portion of the westside wall.

“However, the Boeing B737-800 aircraft landed safely at Mumbai airport around 5.35 am, after abandoning its journey to Dubai and all the passengers are safe,” The Times of India reported.

The airport officials said that the cause of this incident could be ascertained only after an inquiry with the pilot of the aircraft. “Bird hit might be a reason for this incident,” the officials added.

An inquiry has been ordered. Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu tourism minister Vellamandi N Natarajan visited the airport and inspected the spot.

More details are awaited.
