He is known to have quite a lot of blockbuster films to his credit. Today he rang in the celebrations of his 52nd Birthday. On the occasion of his special day, here we take a look at five of his unmissable movies. Films such as Omkara and Drishyam are on the list, which proves his onscreen versatility.

Omkara

Ajay Devgn portrayed the role of Omkara ‘Omi’ Shukla in this hit film. He is a hardened goon, who is equivalent to a capo, a man with principles who sees life in extremes- either as good or evil. He is the illegitimate child of a higher-caste Brahmin father and a lower-caste mother. The film also starred Kareena Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan and Vivek Oberoi in the key roles. The crime thriller was an adaptation of Shakespeare’s Othello, which is set in India. The half-caste bandit Omkara abducts his lady love, Dolly Mishra (Kareena Kapoor) only to attract new troubles in their lives. 

Drishyam

Drishyam revolves around the story of a family. Wherein the disappearance of a policewoman’s son threatens to ruin Vijay’s family (Ajay Devgn). He is an orphan who is dropped out of school after his 4th grade and he grows up to become a successful businessman running a cable TV service in Goa. He leaves no stone unturned in building a shield for his family and sticks to his family in every thick-and-thin situation. The film is said to have been inspired by The Devotion of Suspect X, a Japanese novel written by Keigo Higashino. However, the makers have not confirmed anything about the plot being inspired by a book. Devgn’s onscreen performance was received well by the audience. 

Company

Ajay Devgn portrayed the role of Mafia Boss- Mallik in this one. The film was labeled as a “fictional expose” of the Mumbai underworld, the film was loosely based on the mafia organization D-Company, known to be run by Dawood. The film’s lead cast includes Mohanlal, Manisha Koirala, Seema Biswas alongside Devgn and it was helmed by Ram Gopal Verma.

Once Up On A Time In Mumbaai

This one is also a gangster drama and it is set in the backdrop of Mumbai city. It was directed by Milan Luthria and featured Ajay Devgan, Emraan Hashmi, Kangana Ranaut, Prachi Desai and Randeep Hooda in the pivotal roles. Devgn portrayed the role of Sultan Mirza, who is one of the biggest underworld Don’s of Mumbai. The film’s story is stated to be fictional and both Ajay and Emraan Hashmi were appreciated for their onscreen performances.

 

Singham

Helmed by Rohit Shetty this cop’s drama featuring Ajay Devgn went on to break several records at the box office. Ajay Devgn portrayed the role of an honest police officer, Bajirao Singham, who is in charge of the Shivgarh police station. His style of dealing with the goons and criminals won million hearts. Devgn was highly appreciated for his charming onscreen persona as the police officer.
