The Gujarat BJP legislature party met earlier at the party headquarters in Gandhinagar. It was to elect a new leader. The move came after Chief Minister Vijay Rupani’s sudden resignation on September 11. On Saturday, Vijay Rupani had suddenly submitted his resignation. Mr Rupani’s resignation was followed by that of his cabinet.
The party high command deputed two Central observers Narendra Singh Tomar and Pralhad Joshi. They conducted the legislature party meeting in which a new leader was elected to the Chief Minister’s post.
Bhupendra Patel has been chairman, of the Standing Committee of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation. He is also Chairman of Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA). Patel had earlier served as municipal councillor in Ahmedabad.
Reportedly the ruling party is likely to make massive changes in the Cabinet. More than half a dozen top members of the outgoing Cabinet likely be dropped. This move is to infuse new blood in the government ahead of the polls that will be held next year.
