All schools in BMC jurisdiction to remain closed till 31st December. The decision has been taken in the wake of rise in #COVID19 cases in Mumbai. Schools will not re-open on November 23rd,” said Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar.

Earlier this month, Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had approved schools in the state to re-open for classes for 9 to 12 after Diwali. The schools were scheduled to restart on November 23.

The state education department has also made it mandatory for teachers to undergo an RT-PCR test for COVID-19. This is before the schools reopen, to minimise the risk of the virus.

Mumbai recorded 924 new coronavirus cases on Thursday, taking the total tally beyond 2.72 lakh cases. Also 1,192 more patients got discharged from hospitals following recovery.
