The handwritten lyrics to Bob Dylan's classic song The Times They Are A-Changin' are going up for sale
The handwritten lyrics to Bob Dylan’s classic song The Times They Are A-Changin’ are going up for sale. Can you guess the price of the sale? Well, the lyrics are on sale for USD 2.2 million.
As per Reuters, Gary Zimet, the owner of Los Angeles-based autograph dealers Moments in Time, said on Sunday the one-page sheet of lyrics, written in a notebook and with changes and scribbles, was originally owned by Dylan’s current manager, Jeff Rosen.
“It’s not an auction. It’s a private sale. First come, first served,” Zimet told Reuters. He also said that he was also selling the lyrics of two other Dylan songs – Subterranean Homesick Blues for USD 1.2 million, and Lay Lady Lay for USD 650,000. “They are not quite as important, as iconic. Subterranean Homesick Blues is certainly a major, major song but not in the same league as The Times They Are A-Changin’,” said Zimet.
The Times They Are A-Changin’ was written by Dylan in 1963 and was released on his 1964 album of the same name. It is one of the most iconic protest songs of the 1960s.
Bob Dylan recently shared his first new original song in eight years. The song is called Murder Most Foul which was inspired by the 1963 assassination of US President John F. Kennedy.
In 2016, Dylan won the Nobel Prize for Literature.
Bob Dylan’s last album Tempest, came out in 2012. He was supposed to go on a musical tour but he had to cancel the Japanese leg of his 2020 tour due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
