Following CBI Director Alok Verma’s forced leave, there has been a big overhaul in the CBI corridors in which the officer probing accused Special Director Rakesh Asthana was transferred to Port Blair in ‘public interest’ with ‘immediate effect’. Verma’s A-Team head AK Bassi was replaced by Satish Dagar in the wee hours on Wednesday, soon after M Nageswar Rao took charge at around 1.45 am.

Dagar came to prominence for investigating Dera Sachcha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim and bring him to book. Apart from Dagar, there have sweeping changes in which many were given different postings following the controversy that shook the entire investigating agency.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Tarun Gauba will be Dagar’s first supervisor. Gauba investigated Madhya Pradesh’s huge teacher recruitment scandal which is known as the ‘Vyapam scam’. In another shuffle, V Murugesan, who apparently earned brownie points for coal scam probe, will be the new joint director in the team.
The central agency also shuffled Joint Director in charge of Policy, Arun Kumar Sharma’s position. He has now been made the Joint Director of the Multi-Disciplinary Monitoring Agency which is probing former PM Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination.
Next in line was Senior officer A Sai Manohar. Manohar has now been posted as joint director Chandigarh zone while Amit Kumar will shoulder the responsibility of additional charge as joint director-policy.
However, Rakesh Asthana has been charged with accepting a bribe of Rs 2 crore from a businessman and the probe is on. The First Information Report was filed on October 15, for which the investigations are underway.
