Chhattisgarh: Four CRPF jawans killed in Maoist attack in Bijapur

Atleast four Central Reserve Police Force personnel lost their lives after Maoists blew up their anti-landmine vehicle in poll-bound Bijapur district Chhattisgarh on Saturday.

As per to the PTI reports, the blast took place near Murdanda camp of the CRPF under Awapalli police station at around 4 pm. The incident happened when the vehicle carrying six personnel was around one km away from the camp and a powerful land mine blew the vehicle. All the personnel belonged to 168th battalion, said, Bijapur Superintendent of Police Mohit Garg.

Briefing more, the SP said, “Four paramilitary personnel were killed and two others were injured in the blast.” Another senior police personnel added that two personnel have been sent for medical treatment. P Sundar Raj, DIG (Anti-Naxal Operation) said, as ANI reported, “Four Central Reserve Police Force personnel (one ASI, one head-constable, two constables of 168 battalion) lost their lives in an IED blast in Awapalli Police Station area(Bijapur). 2 injured jawans sent for medical treatment.”

The blast took place a weeks ago before the first phase of Assembly elections scheduled to take place in Chhattisgarh on November 12 for 18 seats. The second phase for 72 seats will take place on November 20 and the results will be declared on December 11, along with four other states.
