Cristiano Ronaldo on Wednesday denied the accusations of rape by a former model, who claimed that the Juventus star raped her in a La Vegas hotel penthouse suite in 2009.

I firmly deny the accusations being issued against me,” tweeted the Portuguese skipper. “Rape is an abominable crime that goes against everything that I am and believe in. Keen as I may be to clear my name I refuse to feed the media spectacle created by people seeking to promote themselves at my expense.”

“My clear conscious (sic) will thereby allow me to await with tranquility the results of any and all investigations,” added the 33-year-old, who this summer swapped Real Madrid for Juventus for a $117 million.

34-year-old Kathryn Mayorga had in a 32-page complaint filed last month with a district court in Nevada, US, had accused Portuguese superstar of raping her on June 13, 2009.

An AFP report stated that the Las Vegas police this week had informed that they were reopening a case filed on that date but did not identify the victim or the accused by their name.

It also further added that Mayorga’s lawyers are expected to hold a news conference in Las Vegas at 3:00 pm Pacific time (3:30 IST) on Wednesday to discuss the case.

The woman also alleges that she was later pressurized into signing a non-disclosure agreement and paid $375,000 to remain mum on the matter.
