Cristiano Ronaldo marks maiden Serie A goal with a brace as Juventus win
Cristiano Ronaldo set Lady Turin ablaze with a wonderful brace, not just breaking his duck but also leading Juventus to a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Sassuolo in his fourth game in Serie A on Sunday.
The victory though was marred by a Douglas Costa red card, who was sent off for spitting on an opponent after an off the ball altercation.
Five-time Ballon d’Or winner Ronaldo has had a hard time finding the net in Serie A. But on Sunday he opened his account scoring not just once but twice and missing out on two opportunities to bring a perfect ending with a hat-trick.
After a goalless first half, Ronaldo broke the deadlock in the 50th minute, scoring his first goal in Italy domestic league with a simple tap-in from two-meters out. The Portuguese sensation the added another 15 minutes later finishing a counter-attack with a left-footed low powerful shot from outside the box.
He then had two great chances to complete his hat-trick but poor decisions let him down.
Meanwhile, Khouma Babacar pulled one back for Sassuolo in the final minute before extra-time but it wasn’t enough to prevent the ‘neroverdi’ from falling to their first defeat of the season.
Juventus’ fourth consecutive victory in the league was, however, marred by a Douglas Costa red card, who became involved in a feud with Sassuolo midfielder Federico Di Francesco.
The Brazilian winger was earlier booking for elbowing and then head-butting his opponent but was later sent off after video cameras caught him spitting at the same player in another altercation.
Juventus lead the table with 12 points from four matches.
