Rajinikanth’s Darbar aired on local TV channel; Makers lodge complaint

The years most awaited film Darbar featuring South megastar Rajinikanth has hit the screen. But in less than a week of its release, a local cable TV network aired the pirated version of the film on their channel. The makers soon lodged a complaint and have sought severe action to be taken on the TV channel for denting the collection of Darbar. Lyca productions has lodged a complaint against the Madurai-based channel for telecasting the movie.

In a statement released the production company has said, “While the movie has been receiving good response and running successfully in all the centres, we are astounded and distressed to know that the movie was telecast illegally in a local television channel (based in Madurai) on January 12 evening. We, as the producer of the film, are saddened by these kinds of acts and request the authorities to take necessary action against these culprits.”

Directed by AR Murugadoss, Darbar also features Nayanthara, Nivetha Thomas, Suniel Shetty and Yogi Babu in key roles. The A R Murugadoss directorial was released on 9 January in about 7,000 screens around the world. The movie has received the blockbuster status on the opening weekend with a collection of Rs 128 crore worldwide.

On the work front, Rajinikanth is currently busy with the shooting of his next tentatively titled ‘Thalaivar 168’. Directed by Siruthai Siva, the film also features Khushbu Sundar, Meena, Prakash Raj, Keerthy Suresh, Soori and Sathis in key roles. It is expected to hit the big screens in October 2020.
