Playing for Western Australia in the JLT cup against Queensland at the Hurstville Oval, the left-hander powered his way to 257 runs of just 148 balls, which also is the highest score in Australia. He thus went past Ben Dunk’s 229. Short also joins Travis Head, Philip Hughes, and Dunk as the cricketers to have scored ODI double hundreds in Australia.

Short notched up his hundred in just 83 balls, which is his second in List A cricket. After having reached his milestone, the opener attacked the opposition bowlers and reached his double ton in 128 deliveries.

Mathew Kunhemann was the one who finally brought an end to the onslaught after he was caught out of his crease which allowed stumper Jimmy Peirson to knock down the stumps.,

Short’s 257 thus ranks third in the list of the all-time highest scores in ODI cricket. The list is topped by Scotland’s Alistair Brown who scored 268 against Glamorgan while representing Surrey. The second in that list is Rohit Sharma who smashed 264 runs in an ODI against Sri Lanka.

The 38-year old Short hammered a record 24 sixes as his team posted 387 runs. New Zealand’s Colin Munro had hit 23 sixes in a first-class inning.
