Turkey’s largest city has once again shaken by an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.7 leading to panic and chaos among the citizens. According to reports, the tremors of earthquake were also felt in the neighbouring provinces.

The Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute said that the epicentre of Turkey’s earthquake was about 70kms west of Istanbul city, located in the south of the town of Silivri.

The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority says in a statement that the quake struck in the Sea of Marmara at 13:59 p.m. (10:59 GMT) at 6.9 kilometres below ground.

Notably, Earthquake in Turkey has become a regular thing. Earlier over 200 people were killed and more than 1000 injured after a powerful 7.2 earthquake hit southeastern Turkey on 23 October 2011. Owing to that strong earthquake, dozens of buildings were collapsed.

In 1999 a quake measuring 7.6 strike the city of Izmit, 90 km southeast of Istanbul, leaving more than 17,000 people killed.
