Federer was defeated by German Alexander Zverev in last year’s Rogers Cup final, the exact kind of shock South Africa’s Kevin Anderson produced in this years Wimbledon Quarter final where he managed to get the better of the 36 year old in a hard fought encounter. Tennis fans were shocked on his premature exit as the Swiss International hadn’t lost a set at the grass court since July 2016 before this match. It was indeed an astonishing turnaround.

The world number two has won the tournament twice but failed to win it last year in Montreal. He has played the tournament which is played on alternate venues each year between Montreal and Toronto, only once in the last four seasons.

“I had a fantastic time in Montreal last year and always enjoy playing in front of the Canadian fans, but unfortunately with scheduling being the key to my longevity moving forward, I have regrettably decided to withdraw from Toronto this year. I wish the tournament every success and am sorry to miss it.”, said Roger Federer.

Rogers Cup will begin 4th August and will end on 12th August with top players like Rafael Nadal and Wimbledon 2018 champion, Novak Djokovic featuring in the competition.
