Final call on Grand Alliance only after assembly polls results, says Gehlot

With General Elections are months away and political parties opposing Bharatiya Janata Party trying to form a Grand Alliance with Congress, they might have to wait till he Assembly Elections results of four states in coming months, confirms senior Congress leader from Rajasthan Ashok Gehlot on Saturday.

Making it very clear that Congress will take the decision on Grand Alliance only after they get results are announced, former chief minister said that if the party forms its own government with majority, it might stake a claim to lead the alliance. He was commenting on the reports which said that Congress would play a convener role in the upcoming elections and confirmed that no decision has been taken yet by the party.

Assembly polls are scheduled for three big states — Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh — along with north-eastern state Mizoram, by the end of this year. Speaking about the alliance with the regional parties, the AICC general secretary in-charge of Organisation and Training told that they are waiting for the polls, reports Deccan Chronicle.

Adding further, Gehlot stated that Congress was in a direct fight with the BJP in these states. He said, “There will be four Assembly polls. Only after the results are out, the situation will be clear as to what the people want. All parties will base their approach to remove the BJP on the basis of these results.”
