Hardik Pandya-KL Rahul fined Rs.20 Lakh each for Koffee With Karan 6 row
Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul will have to pay Rs 1 lakh each to widows of 10 constables in paramilitary forces who lost their lives on duty.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Ombudsman DK Jain has fined Indian cricketers Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul a sum of Rs. 20 lakhs each for their controversial statements on Karan Johar’s popular chat show ‘Koffee With Karan 6’. The cricketers will pay a fine of Rs. 1 lakh to widows of 10 constables in paramilitary forces who lost their lives on duty. The remaining amount will be funded to the blind cricket association.
As per a statement released by the Ombudsman, “Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul fined 20 Lakh rupees by the BCCI ombudsman in regard to their appearance on # KoffeeWithKaran. They will have to pay 1,00,000 to ten widows on Bharat ke veer app and 10,00,000 to the fund of cricket association for blind.”
The cricketers have been asked to pay the said amount within four weeks from the date of receipt of the order. If the cricketers fail to pay the said amount then it will be deducted from the match fees payable to the players by the Board of Control for Cricket in India.
Hardik Pandya-KL Rahul has to pay the fine as a punishment for the sexist comments they made on Karan Johar’s TV show Koffee with Karan. After their controversial appearance on the talk show, the duo were suspended from the team and was subsequently asked to return to India from the Australia tour. The two players had subsequently apologized for their statements.
The ombudsman is of an opinion that the players are role models for the country and should consider restraint. But as they had apologized and did not contest the action initiated against them, there is no need to take any more action against them.
The duo can now look forward to representing the country in the upcoming World Cup in England and Wales as the national selectors have picked the duo in the 15-member squad.
