Extremely heavy rain warning for parts of west coast today, IMD issues red alert for Konkan region

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also issued a red alert for the entire North Konkan area, including Mumbai and Thane. The IMD has warned a deep depression off the east coast of North-eastern Andhra Pradesh that will move westward while maintaining its power for the next five days. In Hyderabad, at least 15 people died following incessant rainfall in the region.  The Indian Army has joined Telangana in carrying out rescue operations and flood relief. They have shifted many stranded people to safe places in Hyderabad.

Heavy rains wreaked havoc in Karnataka as the deep depression crossed the coast, leaving behind a trail of destruction in the southern states. Six people were killed in a wall collapse triggered by heavy rains in Pandharpur town of Maharashtra’s Solapur district.

The NDRF has sent two teams to Karnataka and three teams to Maharashtra as rescue operations due to the flood-like situation there.

On Thursday, heavy rainfall is expected to lash Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and Raigad with a wind speed of 20-30 kmph gusting to 40 kmph.

The IMD has advised fishermen to not venture into East-central Arabian sea along and off south Maharashtra-Goa coast during October 13-15 and Gujarat-Maharashtra coast on October 16 and 17.
